Six Ways For Kids To Make Money

Image
Most of us know the usual ways for kids to make money, which include lemonade stands, newspaper routes and mowing lawns. However, there are more unusual ways. Some of the ways listed below are from my own childhood when I was always looking for another way to make money. 1. Be a chef. At about eleven years old, I used to sell meals to my brothers (I had four of them). I got 25 cents for scrambled eggs or a sandwich, and more for more complicated meals. My brothers preferred to stay in front of the TV and let me cook for them. Since the food was already provided by my parents, the income was pure profit. 2. Computer whiz-kid service. Many young kids know a lot about computers. My nephew was getting paid for programming by the time he was fourteen, but even younger kids can show old folks how to use a computer and the internet for a fee. Learn a few more skills, and they can even set up computers for new owners who are using them for the first time. Letting grandparents sp...

Fat Farm - All The Myths About It

Image
The term "fat farm", as also with the term "fat camp", carries with it a decidedly pejorative tone, but does that mean the concept behind them is bad? Indisputably not, as it turns out. As long as the participant is attending of their own free will, the idea behind these weight loss resorts and camps is wonderful and well worth considering for anyone having difficulty shedding those unwanted pounds. The difference between a weight loss camp (or fat camp) and a weight loss resort (or fat farm) is simple: the former is for children and teens, the latter for adults. Both provide accommodations, fresh and delicious supervised meals, trained health and fitness professionals on staff (usually including a health clinic or at least a nurse on premises), and lots of supervised exercises. Most weight loss camps for kids and teens include nutrition classes, supervised aerobic activities, and regular weigh-ins, and report an average weekly weight loss ranging f...

What is Anger Management?

Image
Anger is an emotion experienced by kids and adults alike. When something or someone interferes with an individual in a negative manner, it can cause them to become angry. Anger is a normal response to such a situation. However, anger can be classed as a mild or intense irritation. Depending on the individual, the circumstance and their emotions, anger may cause a person to become enraged or even furious. People who become angry behave in different ways. Some lash out or become extremely defensive. Other people tend to keep their anger to themselves, bottling up their negative emotions and hurt. While some people become reckless and even abusive. Anger can be a terribly harmful emotion if it isn't controlled. Controlling anger is considered anger management. The first step to controlling anger issues it to admit there is a problem. Some people have major anger issues but cannot see it. Naturally, something happens to set a person off making them angry. Individuals, wh...

Accredited Home Schools - Are They Right For You?

Image
Your homeschool curriculum can also incorporate your own religious and moral beliefs, something that no one but you can teach your own child. By taking control of a child's education a parent can shape that child's value system better than any other way. It is not necessary to have a teaching degree or to even be a college graduate for that matter. Although it is a tremendous responsibility to teach your own child the education they will receive from a concerned parent will be much greater than they can get in a public school system. And if you don't feel comfortable with some of the harder subject materials it's possible to hire a tutor for those classes. If you want your child to excel in homeschool you need to possess two things. One, you must have the desire to teach your children and two, you must have the determination to succeed with homeschooling. With home schools that's all, it takes, a desire and some effort. With those two things, your child...

Raising Kids The Green Way

Image
Vegans exempt animal products from their lifestyle. This is easy enough for committed older vegans, but how to raise a kid with no milk, ice cream, chocolate, or candy? In today's, predominantly meat-dependent and animal fashion crazed world, it is certainly a challenge for vegan parents to raise their children. Fortunately, the years brought an abundance of information about vegan fashion, vegan shoes, vegan recipes, vegan lifestyle, and veganism. All that vegan parents need right now are determination and creativity to encourage their children to take up the vegan way of life. The first hurdle vegans have to face is the question of feeding their children. There are lots of available food choices in the market today for vegan fare. Vegan recipes are not just salads; they extend to casseroles, baked dishes, and even desserts. Vegan ice creams, smoothies, and candies are now available in the market. These items taste just as good as the traditional dairy products minus the ...

Tips When Motivating Children to Love Education

Image
Children at their earliest ages should learn and realize the importance of education to their lives. However, there are just some kids who try to resist the norm and insist on doing things their way. How could you motivate your children or teens to treat education as a necessary preparation for their future? Here are some practical and proven effective guidelines. Teach the value of education early in a child's life. Children are naturally curious and observant. They may be wondering why you love reading books or magazines. Tell them that they need to learn to read to be able to also share such enjoyment. It would help if you would tell your children on a daily basis how important getting a good education is in attaining goals and dreams in life. Be creative when teaching children during their formative years. If you are not a teacher in a profession, you could still strive to be an effective home tutor to your kids. You see, as a parent, you should also learn how to ...

How to be the "Ultimate" Parent

Image
We all know what a bad parent looks like: intolerant, constantly critical, more interested in their own affairs (in both senses of the word) than in the needs of their children. But what does it take to be a good parent? What does it take to give your children the very best start to live that you possibly can? In the 1960's John Bowlby did a lot of work looking into the effects of parenting on children. In those days he coined the term "good-enough parenting". His thesis was that provided you avoided the sins of "bad" parenting, you were doing okay, and your children, with their own natural resilience, would also do okay. So is that all there is to it? Or are there things that you, as a parent, can do to be more than just a "good enough" parent. Can you, indeed, be a "super parent", even the "ultimate" parent? Or is that just a myth of the feminist movement? Well, let's get one thing straight once and for all: No...

The Costs of Home Schooling

Image
Parents have various reasons for choosing home schooling over traditional school teaching and one The very evident reason is cost. But is it necessarily true that homeschooling does not involve a lot of cost? Well, if you think that you can cut down the education expenses of your kids, you're very wrong. Homeschooling is a tough decision for parents because the costs are much higher especially if they choose modern programs. These modern programs offered through homeschooling can compete with regular schools and so the costs are almost the same. Firstly, you will need a computer and a high-speed Internet connection. Aside from that, once you've chosen the particular education program, you still have to purchase course materials like textbooks. Extra costs also surface as the child grow older because the subjects are more advanced and difficult. Some parents can no longer handle the lessons all by themselves and so they hire private tutors. The tutors are additio...
